This is a very relaxed Introduction to Ancient Egyptian Art and Artefacts, led by John Billman MA, Egyptology expert. John spends summers in Egypt on conservation work, chairs many Egyptology societies and is an experienced university
Last February he came to Bishopstone to give a day of lectures titled “A Virtual Tour of the Nile”, which everyone who attended agreed was excellent, with slides and very interesting handouts. His overview description of this year’s February course is as follows:
“Ancient Egyptian Art is immediately recognisable, combining aesthetic with a functional approach, while the dry sands of Egypt have preserved a wide range of objects. This day school will survey the evolution of both artefacts and tomb over the three millennia of ancient Egyptian civilisation, exploring both the principles of Egyptian art and the representations themselves and what they tell us about a culture that endured for so long.” For more information or to enrol, call Pat on 01722 780002. Cost per head is £40, payable in advance to secure a place. There is a half hour break for lunch, so you may like to bring a sandwich or similar. Coffee, tea and biscuits are available.
