BISHOPSTONE HOUSING NEEDS SURVEY
Background
1. Wiltshire Council has a statutory responsibility to assess the housing needs of its population. This information is used to help the council develop its housing and planning policies to best meet those needs, including whether there is a local need for affordable housing in parishes and, if so, of what size and type. To this end it conducts, in co-operation with Parish Councils, rural Housing Needs Surveys (HNS).
2. Once an HNS report has been published it is sent to the Parish Council concerned and published more widely. It is now the norm for registered housing providers (Housing Associations) to undertake the provision of affordable housing so the report is also sent to HAs who have indicated an interest in undertaking developments in the area concerned. One, or more, of these may then approach the Parish Council to discuss what sort of development might be undertaken, where and when.
3. It is expected that the Parish Council will discuss the report at its meeting in May 2014.
